Is active learning play for children?

When children are young, many of the play activities that they participate in are learning experiences. You can enhance the learning by using lots of descriptive vocabulary, big red ball, soft and furry cat, etc. Interacting with children while they play and asking them to show you a red block or hand you two blocks, or a specific letter is active learning.
