Is gravity essential for scientific development?

hi, i was looking for answers to why we need gravity on earth and i got answer like it keeps us from floating into space, it keeps our plates from floating, etc. but i want to know if gravity has any other importance, maybe some thing like without gravity we wont be able to grow plants or without gravity further development of technology would be impossible. i would really appreciate it if i could get answers ASAP. thank you.
