Do I have to have a prescription for doing a blood sugar and lipid profile test?

I have a UHC health care insurance. Do I have to have a doctor prescription to get my blood sugar and lipid profile testing. Will they do the needful or will insist on a prescription. I don't know how it works. Have done these tests before but I carried a prescription with me on those occasions. Now I don't have and to get one I will first have to visit a general practitioner. Can't that be avoided ?
